DWK LAW represent client in National Health Service Counter Fraud Authority Investigation

R v RP - Southwark Crown Court - October 2026

FRAUD BY FALSE REPRESENTATION : CONVERTING CRIMINAL PROPERTY

DWK represent RP in a four-week trial before Southwark Crown Court. The prosecution followed a lengthy investigation by the National Health Service Counter Fraud Authority. The prosecution concerned the submission of fraudulent prescriptions for reimbursement, the obtaining of medicines using false prescriptions and the onward sale of medicines obtained fraudulently. RP was an employee of a wholesale pharmaceutical supplier. The Crown’s against RP (and his co-accused ) was that large numbers of false prescriptions were submitted to the NHS via a pharmacy. The prescriptions purported to show medicines being dispensed to patients, and the pharmacy was reimbursed by the NHS for the costs of those medicines. However, the medicines were not in fact being dispensed. The false prescription claims caused a loss to the NHS of approximately £1.3M. The pharmacy paid the suppliers for these medicines and many of the prescriptions were also submitted to the NHS for reimbursement. The improperly obtained drugs were viewed as criminal property having been obtained by fraud. The Crown’s case was that both defendants  sold the drugs to pharmaceutical wholesalers in the EU for substantial profit.

Millennium Chambers are instructed.
